I cannot believe it’s been so long since I’ve written to you all!  I’m so sorry!  it seems this season called for silence.  Complete silence and reflection.  I know everyone goes through transitions.  I despise transitions!  I’m the person who plans the entire year on January 1.  I have a 5 year, 10 year, 20 year plan.

And then life happens.

Things don’t go as planned, and I remember God said…

Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil.

This is from James 4:13-16.  I ALWAYS think on this verse.  I think it’s the Holy Spirit reminding me that I have no control.  Even when I think I do, I don’t.  He’s had me sitting in verses like “Be Still and know that I am God.” and, more recently…

Who has done such mighty deeds, summoning each new generation from the beginning of time?  It is I, the LORD, the First and the Last.  I alone am he.”

He’s so gently (as only He can do) reminding me that HE ALONE is in control.  I’m realizing that I’ve waisted so many years NOT trusting Him completely.  But in this season I’m FINALLY learning to trust the Lord.  With my kids, with my failures, with my family, with me.

I LOVE action verses…

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.  ~ Hebrews 12:1

Give me something to accomplish.  I’ll plan it out.  And, damn-it, I’ll GET IT DONE!  Can you say “damn-it” when you’re talking about the Holy Bible?  Well, I just did.  So I’m thinking yes!

But to “sit” and “stop spinning”??  Is 100% against my nature.  “Why” you ask?  Because the enemy taught me, at a very young age, that I MUST take care of myself!  Or no-one will.  LIES!  He’s the “father of lies”.  I listened.  For too long.

So, here’s what I’ve been up to the last couple of months…

These books… In this order… Have been nothing short of profound…

Lysa TerKeurst is my new favorite.  She doesn’t present herself in the typical “Christian Culture” sort of way.  Being born and raised in “Christian Culture” I appreciate this attribute very much.  It’s an awesome read!

In conjunction with this (Although not on purpose but rather, quite by accident) I’m doing her study…

Seriously, a friend of mine asked me and a few other friends if we were interested in doing this study.  I said yes, before I knew who the author was!  God is so cool that way!  The book I’m intrenched in, and being sharpened by is by the very same author as the Bible Study I just agreed to participate in!

Second book…  Hear me… LIFE CHANGING…

Brant Hansen nails it in this read.  Really worth your time!

And, here I am… Spring Break for my two college girls.  I picked one, plus three friends, up from the airport today.  I’m sitting in the family room, enjoying all the bursts of laughter from upstairs in the gameroom.  And I realize I’m sort of suspended between two worlds.  In one world, my identity rests in being a mom.  I find my comfort in my identity as a mom.  The mom with a revolving front door.

In the second world, I’m… Well, I’m not quite sure yet!  I’ve been a mom since I was 19 years old!  Now what!?  I’ve honestly never even imagined myself past this point!  Never even contemplating what I would do with me…  But, back to the action verses, I CAN “run with endurance the race that God has set for [me].”

But that’s not what God has asked of me for now.  To DO something, any action, would in fact be a sweet release.  It would put a feeling, all-be-it false, of control back into my head.  Instead, He has me sitting.  Waiting.  Listening.  Dying. Praying for my enemies and in the process loving my enemies.  Ultimately this “sitting” is teaching me to trust the Lord in ways I never attempted in the past.  Such a paradox, and yet such profound truth.

I understand that He’ll give me a mission again.  Another Spring if you will.  Of this I am sure.  And, unless I go home, I’ll go through another winter.  Another growing season.  And I find it funny that in the midst of my “spring season” when things are so lush and seemingly easy, my thoughts always appear so valiant.  “God is AMAZING!  Listen to me!  I have heard from Him, and I understand Him and I can help you do the same!”  But the first sign of a freeze and I’m like “Was He ever really there in the first place!?”

I’m nothing, if not dramatic.  JK, I’m so much more than drama!

Things are turning lush and green again.  I see life up ahead.  Fun and exciting things to come!  I have new goals for 2017.  I can’t wait to share these new plans with you in the weeks to come!  But for now, I’ll summarize…

Pool House Plans…

We FOR SURE have spring fever.  And by “we” I mean me and the dogs.  In fact the dogs (4 big ones) feel like they’re taking over!  But I love them, and since my kids are moving away at what feels like record speed, I’m keeping these guys.

Consequently, the backyard  is getting smaller and smaller.  Having been born and raised in the desert, I’m not one to chop down trees.  However, we’ve reached a point in which we either need less dogs or less trees.  Again, I choose the dogs.  So we came up with a new plan for the backyard.  Say goodbye to all those trees!  Some of them anyway.

My awesome force of college guys were hired to cut down trees and brush to begin clearing the area for a new plan!  They cut and cut for 2 or 3 weeks and now it is bare. Here’s my current reality…

At this point, you’re probably asking yourself “Why?” and that’s fair.  But here’s why…

Isn’t it awesome!  We’re putting in a pool cabana with this one from Atlanta Homes as the inspiration!  With the help of Wootan Homes, we are creating a fun new poolside hangout!  I’ll be updating you as we progress.

Now you’re saying, “Wait!  What about room for the dogs?”  There’s still PLENTY-O-Room for those guys!  We’re also planning on adding more landscaping around the perimeter of the fence, so that everyone in College Station doesn’t have to look at us in swimsuits in the heat of the summer.  Something similar to this…

Plus, a few fun areas for trampolining and s’more making, like this…

Spring is coming guys!  In more ways than one.  The cold, ugly, lifeless months of winter always produce new, thriving, beautiful goodness!  I feel it in and for my soul as much as I feel it for God’s planet.  I hope your winter has been full of rest and rejuvenation!  It’s almost time to party and you know how I love a good party!
