It is very hard for me to not make everything very bright. You might even say “outlandish”.  For example, when a choice is presented between a red sofa and a beige sofa, by default, my brain chooses the red.  However, I am attempting to make the Jenny-Mike main living room (the Great Room) more a of a toned-down adult space.  Please help me in my efforts to create a sophisticated living room design!

Something like this…

This room is cozy and inviting.  And at the same time, as “adult” as it is, nothing in it makes you think you’re not allowed to put your feet up on that coffee table!  It’s just not quite as vibrant and stimulating as I usually lean.  Like this…

OMG!  Even as I enter that pic, my mouth is watering!  I mean, that pink ottoman!  And the artwork!  Save it for the game room, Jen!

Ok refocusing… Breathing deep… What are the elements of “calm” that I need to focus on for the JM Great Room?

Monotone

This living room is very classy and you’ll notice very monotone.  It has a calming effect.  But still a little stuffy for the JM House.  Right??

This one is less stuffy yet still very monotone and subdued.  I like it.  The natural light is inviting.  I would feel a little more welcome in a room such as this.  Agreed?

Splash of Color

I just can’t stop myself from adding at least a little color!  Nothing wrong with that, right!?  I mean, even the most boring adult needs a little stimulation in their life! 🙂

How beautiful yet still ADULT is this!?  Just a pop of sunny yellow and instant happiness is added to an otherwise gray room!  I truly dislike gray, BTW.

Or, how bout turquoise? Gorgeous, right?

And my all time favorite color additive, red!  Not overwhelming at all!  Just enough to show a fun side!  I LOVE it!

Paint Color

Here’s another area that is difficult for me to tone down… Walls!

Be still my heart!!  That gold trim!  Are you kidding me!?!  Excuse me, while I wipe the drool from my face.  This is my natural tendency… obviously.  I mean the red, not drooling! LOL. But not so monotone, right?

So I’m studying these pics for the beauty and appeal…

A simple cream color on this wall and it is BEAUTIFUL!  A very elegant corner that says “I inherited all my timeless style from my classy grandmother”!

monotone paneling to die for!  Plus, add blush to any room and I’m all over it!

More monotone paneling with the addition of beautiful artwork.  Nothing boring here!

This room is lacking in color but by no means lacking in interest!  The monochromatic scene is stunning!

 Jenny-Mike Great Room

With those thoughts, here’s the little that I’ve put together this far…

Jenny Michal Interiors | College Station, Tx

This tufted sofa will be incorporated into the great room design.  Probably the antique artwork as well.

The coffee table (minus the stuff on top) is an antique, circa 1950.  And it is mine.  Hehe!  The others are only possibilities for the time being.  What do you think?  Fun enough, or too stuffy?

Obviously I need all the adult help I can get!  Please share your thoughts!
