When you are designing a house there can be so many different rooms and at times it can be overwhelming thinking about decorating all of the different spaces! But, if you remember this important tip it can add a whole new level of cohesiveness! Okay so here it is…. Pick a common color thread and put this color in some way in each of your rooms! Do this and you will be so thankful and it will make your home come together wonderfully!

As many of you may have noticed, I love green. So when designing my own home, I kept green as a common theme throughout the house!

Here, I accented my home office with green cabinets and wallpaper.

Pillows are a great way to pull in your color in any room! I used a green pillow and accent of green in my wallpaper in my stairwell.

Here I pulled green into my kitchen with both green in the curtains and accents of green with flowers and limes!

Don’t be afraid to be bold with your chosen color! Use it as the main color of your room in the wallpaper, like I did here for my master bedroom.

Seating is also a great way to use your color! These are stools I used in my home office to bring more green to the room!

For another example of keeping one color consistent through your home, let’s take a look at how I used blue throughout the home of one of my clients.

For the formal living room I used blues in many different areas to pull the room together. Here you can see the use of blue in the couch, accent pillows, accent chair, rug and vases. Little accents and use of the color blue in different areas of the room really help to make the room cohesive!

I loved the fabric that we found to upholster these accent chairs. Brings in a touch of blue while also using some fun greens!

Another accent chair in the formal living room brings in different shades of blues that are so pretty!

In the family room blue was used in the accents above the mantel in the picture frame, vases and plates.

We used books and pillows in the family room as well to bring in pops of blue.

Flowers are an awesome way to bring in your color to whatever room you choose!

Even in the hallways of your home you can bring your color in with accent furniture.

Again we used plates and vases to bring blue into the kitchen.

These were just two examples of homes that have a cohesive look to them because of color. Be sure to keep this tip in mind when planning the interior of your home, and don’t forget that using a main color throughout your house is what keeps it all together!

So, what’s your favorite color and how can you use it through out your own home?  Happy Whimsy Wednesday!
