Jenny Tamplin | College Station, Texas | Guide To An Awesome Dorm

For all my soon to be college girlies out there, YOU MADE IT! Speaking from one high school senior’s mom to all of you, I am so excited for you and this wonderful time of college that you are about to experience! Living on your own, making new friends, going to college classes and all around getting to experience college are such fun, new and exciting things! Moving into your new home away from home, the beloved dorm rooms, can be a little stressful. What do you bring? How much space will you have? You want to make it look cute, but where do you start?

Good news!  I’ve put together a series of blog posts that are your ultimate dorm survival guide. So stay tuned for some ways to plan your room before you move, organization tips and some essentials that you shouldn’t forget to bring!

1. The Floor Plan

As soon as you find out what your dorm will be at your new school, go ahead and take a look at what the floor plan is. This way you can see a few different things like: What size your room is, the layout of the room and what is included when you move in as far as furniture goes. Below is an example of a dorm room at Texas A&M University. They have these specifications online and you are able to see both the exact dimensions of your room and a possible room configuration! These are so helpful in getting to see your exact space so you can plan accordingly. Jenny Tamplin Interiors | College Station, Texas | College Guide to the Ultimate Dorm Room Jenny Tamplin Interiors | College Station, Texas | College Guide to the Ultimate Dorm Room

2. Design Inspiration

Next, start PINNING and FIND YOUR INSPIRATION. Pinterest is seriously your best friend when it comes to planning your room! Gather ideas of bedding and decor you like and crafts and projects you can do for decorations! This way you can even put together an idea board of all the furniture/necessities you’ll need to buy to make your dorm feel homier and be a reflection of you! Feel free to check out my pinterest board here for some ideas of great inspiration for designing your room! Here are a few of my favorite dorm room ideas!
