“Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?”
- Danielle LaPorte The Firestarter Sessions
I’ve been thinking about this so much lately! Before this sin infested world crept into my soul and began to dictate who I “should be” who was I? Who did my creator intend for me to be?
This is 3 out of 4 of my babies (before #4 was in existence). We’ve got Belle, Hercules, and a bunny?? The truth is I don’t think we ever made it out the door to trick-or-treat that night. And it’s funny that I took a pic because every waking hour looked like this for us. So many sparkly sequined dresses and football uniforms! Maybe you can attest?
Every time Jeff and I see the movie Signs, with the little girl in dress-up we both tear up! We miss those princesses and beauty queens and NFL football players, and MLB players.
The beauty of these little ones in their dream costumes is that they believe they can truly be these things! We all believed and dreamed this way as youngsters! Can you remember how you dreamed?
“The need to be normal is the predominant anxiety disorder in modern life.”
- Thomas Moore Original Self
I’m thinking about the little boy and his bell in “The Polar Express”
BTW Everything in life can be understood better through the lessons learned in Christmas movies! Haha!
What was God telling you about yourself and who He made you to be before the enemy came in to steel, kill and destroy your identity? Can you still hear the answer deep down?
“Thou shalt not SHOULD on me”
- Brennan Manning
I’ve heard that quote called the 11th commandment. Try today, to forget what the world (aka the enemy) has told you you “should” be. Try to remember who you were meant to be! Forget about what it is to be “normal”. Drop the cancer of constant comparison and get down to the bottom of your original dreams!
I’m not sure what my dreams were on this day, in my Dad’s shoes. But I’m very interested and inspired to remember who I was in the beginning, before “Normal” became the goal!
How can we help those in our family remember who they were made to be? Happy Family Friday!
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous-how well I know it.”
